New Horizons

I’m not sure why my professor thought it would be funny to make me illustrate a report cover with Photoshop when I have a perfectly good copy of Illustrator just waiting to be used. But he did. So I did. Because I follow the rules. Damn I hate that about myself. I should be a rule-breaker. A rebel. But I’m not. I’m a Good Girl. I follow the rules and do as I’m told.

In this case it meant illustrating with photo editing software. Fine. It meant drawing my interpretation of a horizon and a road and inserting a cheesy tagline. Whatever. It meant spending a week trying to figure out how the heck to draw with a program that isn’t really designed for drawing. Okay.

But next week? I’m using the damn Illustrator software.

That’s right. I’m BAD.
New Horizons

Not so horrible for a first attempt. Although the un-centered Title is driving me insane. How did I not notice that before? Let’s pretend I did it on purpose. For ummm…. creative reasons.

It looks good! I prefer the uncentered headline. If you have to critique it in front of the class (all my professors insisted on this and as long as you had a reason, it was acceptable), tell him that it was to balance the heavier dark area in the upper left corner. Besides, the subhead fits so nicely between the drop “H” and the end of the title! If you had centered the headline, I think it would have made it all unbalanced. IMHO.

Actually I do more “illustration” with Photoshop than I do with Illustrator. Unless it needs hard edges etc. Did he give you the leeway to do some pieces in illustrator and then import them into Photoshop? (Or you could just do it that way and not tell) ;)

Sue- I think the subheading is what threw the entire heading off. I was so worried with getting the subheading to fit under the H that I didn’t pay attention to centering the whole heading. But I do kind of like it. I just wish I had done it on purpose. Doh.

Jennifer- Nope. It had to be all photoshop. Now that I have a clue what I’m doing it isn’t so bad. But re-learning how to draw with photoshop after using Corel for almost a year sucked. Corel is much more intuitive.

Most of my (good) design seems to be by mistake! Lots of trial and error and hey, that looks pretty good!
