Thirteen is my lucky number. Actually, thirteen and three. I like odd numbers. So, thirteen questions.
I’m totally stealing this idea from Issa because I love it so much. I, too, am the sort of person that loves to answer questions. I always fill out questionnaires when asked. I’m full of answers. Hugely long winded answers. Am wordy.
I want to know about the people who pop in here. My blog stats say there are a lot- like a LOT- of lurkers compared to the number of comments I get. Which is fine. I totally understand the need to lurk. I do it all the time. In fact- I probably lurk on your blog too. But I really want to know a few things. Do you mind? No, of course not.
To fulfill my need to know everything about everyone, please copy and paste your answers to a few things in the comments here. Pretty please? You can’t answer incorrectly and there will be no winners or losers. Unless I really like your answers, in which case, you win.
Let me poke around at your brain.
Mmmmm…. brains.

1. What was your favorite game as a kid? ***field hockey
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be?*** Once upon a time it would be reading, but I’ve gotten lazier. TV.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website?*** Are their non-blog websites? I don’t know. Probably some kind of shopping.
4. What was your favorite book as a child? What about now? Book? *** The Borrowers. Now? True crime books. Yes, that’s a bit sick.
5. If you had a weekend sans all responsibility and an unlimited budget, what would you do? *** Lay on a private tropical beach somewhere and have everything brought to me.
6. What do you *really* think of Twilight? *** Not a thing. Haven’t seen or read any of it.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name? ***I can’t imagine my kids with any other names. Me either.
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy?***A body lift.
9. Look to your left. What do you see? *** Sigh… 2 cats.
10. What word do you use too much?*** It’s a phrase. “I know, right?”
11. What is your favorite body part on yourself? *** My toes are cute but I suppose it would be my eyes.
12. How often do you wash your hair? *** Usually every day. I might skip on the weekend.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it?*** Ideal would be to foster kittens. Except nobody will pay you to do that. So no. Not doing it now.
I LOVED the Borrowers as a kid. Those were some awesome books. And I say “I know, right?” way too much too.
There must be someone, somewhere willing to pay you to foster kitties. Or at least, there should be.
I’ll do it in my blog!
OK, I’ll play.
1. What was your favorite game as a kid? Monopoly. We used to have Monopoly Night regularly with my sisters and my dad. (Mom would have a bubble bath while we were playing, and brother wasn’t old enough to play yet.)
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be? I’m sure you won’t be shocked if I say reading.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website? http://www.car-seat.org
4. What was your favorite book as a child? What about now? A Tree Grows in Brooklyn has been my favorite since I was 10, and it still is.
5. If you had a weekend sans all responsibility and an unlimited budget, what would you do? Have people fix up my house – whatever they could get done on the weekend. And I’d go to a hotel while they did it.
6. What do you *really* think of Twilight? I’d probably enjoy the books well enough if I read them, but I’m really just not interested.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name? Yes, I’d name the kids the same. I really love their names. (Though I *might* name the baby her real name – her nickname – instead of using the longer, formal version as her legal name.)
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy? Brand new minivan.
9. Look to your left. What do you see? Two baskets of folded laundry that I need to put away in the kids’ rooms.
10. What word do you use too much? “Hang on!”
11. What is your favorite body part on yourself? My feet – they don’t look fat, at least.
12. How often do you wash your hair? Daily. I can’t stand to miss my morning shower – even when I have a newborn at home, my daily goal is that I *must* have that morning shower. I’m not especially anal or anything, I just feel yucky if I skip my shower and I hate to start the day that way.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it? I’d work full-time as a (well-paid) Child Passenger Safety Technician. Sadly, I don’t have this job – positions are rare and getting rarer – but I do lots of related volunteer work, which I enjoy.
Ummm.. no, not shocked about the reading.
I love that you consider her nickname to be here “real” name. Hee! We do the same thing with Little.
The kids named the baby, and the nickname version is what they chose. I figured she might want a more grown-up option when she’s a grownup, hence the more formal version on her birth certificate. But I don’t really like it much. (Sorry!
)
1. What was your favorite game as a kid?
~I think my favorite board game was Life. I can’t think of having a favorite any other kind of game, although I liked playing in general. WHAT A BORING ANSWER, sorry.
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be?
~Oh wow. So hard. I mean, reading is beyond important, of course, but they haven’t yet made a book of Lost.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website?
~Is there such a thing? OK, I guess Flickr or Facebook if those count.
4. What was your favorite book as a child? What about now?
~As a kid I was heavily into The Babysitter’s Club. *ahem* But I also loved Island of the Blue Dolphins and anything I read by Madeleine L’Engle. None of that has changed, only expanded (except the bit about the BSC – turns out those books are kinda crap). I still consider L’Engle one of my favorite authors, along with Douglas Adams.
5. If you had a weekend sans all responsibility and an unlimited budget, what would you do?
~Hike? Go to Mexico cause its close? Maybe I’d just buy a house.
6. What do you *really* think of Twilight?
~It’s horribly awesome. Like a train wreck I can’t stop reading. it’s my most favorite trend to bash.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name?
I don’t love my name, but my mother does so much it feels sort of unfaithful to consider changing it.
~I love my childrens’ names.
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy?
A HOUSE.
9. Look to your left. What do you see?
~A mess?
10. What word do you use too much?
~Balls.
11. What is your favorite body part on yourself?
~I love my eye color, but I think my butt is pretty hot.
12. How often do you wash your hair?
~Daily – it’s very oily.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it?
~I am doing it. A homeschooling mom, plus running The Shape of a Mother. Both incredibly fulfilling. I wouldn’t change it for the world. But I would take a maid if anyone offered.
There are no boring answers. I am fascinated by people. I probably should have been a sociologist. Except that would require me to be in actual contact with real life people and possibly use the phone occasionally. *shudders*
I actually loved all your answers. Especially “balls” Hee!
I tried to read a BBC a while back and couldn’t get past the descriptions of the characters. Horrific.
I never do stuff like this, but here goes:
1. What was your favorite game as a kid? The farming game. Yes, I did grow up on a farm.
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be? reading books.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website? I just found it but I find it fascinating. http://www.thelocal.se/followsweden/

6. What do you *really* think of Twilight? I think, Really? Vampires? Seriously? I don’t get it at all.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name? I’ve thought about this and no, I wouldn’t. Even though I compromised with my husband, my children have become their names and I still like them. I think I’ve become my own name too, so I wouldn’t change it either.
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy? I’m gonna have to go with “What is toilet paper?” for $900, Alex.
9. Look to your left. What do you see? A fascinating book called, ‘What our mothers didn’t tell us’ by Danielle Crittenden
10. What word do you use too much? Seriously? (no, that’s the word. There’s probably others though.)
11. What is your favorite body part on yourself? My hands. They’re not perfect but I like them.
12. How often do you wash your hair? About every other day. give or take.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it? I do enjoy my job but I guess I find a lot of things fascinating and can see myself doing other things and enjoying it. Although, I mostly see myself as a stay-at-home mom and I get to do a lot of what I enjoy under that title.
“If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy? I’m gonna have to go with “What is toilet paper?” for $900, Alex.”
Ahh… very practical of you. It would be very had to go with out toilet paper for a year.
I like vampire stories. I’m big on paranormal stuff. I still don’t get Twilight. I’m pretty sure I never will. I just pray that it’s all done before my girls are old enough to read them.
Oh! and thank you very much for playing along even though you normally wouldn’t!
You do know how much I love doing this right? Even if you hadn’t stolen my idea.
Dude, I’m so wordy, I made it my new tagline last week. Ha.
1. I loved the game of Life. I liked naming all the little babies. I used to try to land on every single baby place and end up with a second car full.
2. Oh this is a hard one. I love both. Sigh. Reading. But I’d need tons of great new books.
3. They make websites that aren’t blogs? Hmmm, does Twitter count? I love Flicker. I love looking at peoples random photos of really anything.
4. I read so much as a kid that this is a hard one. I adored Secret Garden as a little girl. Wait Till Helen Comes as a middle school-er and in HS my favorite book was In the Time of the Butterflies. Now? Probably Rise and Shine by Anna Quinlan.
5. Take all my friends to Fiji or Bali or some unknown island that has a resort. Ha. Beach. Sun. Drinks with umbrellas. Desserts. Chatting with friends. No interruptions. No real life. Perfection.
6. Honestly I could care less. Haven’t read it, haven’t seen the movies, am not into vampires. But? I’m a Harry Potter fan…so I get the loving something like this. So it doesn’t bother me either way.
7. So, since this isn’t my blog, I’ll tell you that my kids actual names are Maya, Natalie and Alexander. All three names I adore. However, my ex, named Alex. If I’d gotten my choice, he’d be Beckett. Which is still my absolute favorite boy name. I’d named the girls though, so he got to name the boy. Maya’s name fits her perfectly. As does Natalie’s. Nat’s I came up with last second, because I’d been told she was a boy. Hi, surprise. The blog names were ones on my list.
My name was so popular for the year I was born. 3rd I think. However, I’ve always liked it. Love my middle name.
8. A brand new house.
9. My plastic cup from Starbucks that is filled with ice water.
10. Dude. Seriously. Awesome. Take your pick.
11. Oh this one is hard. I love the color of my eyes. Does that count?
12. Every day. Way to oily not too.
13. Writer. I’d love to write novels. Nope.
I like Beckett! You are very good with names. And my cat is named Maya. Which is good. Really. I’m not trying to say you gave your kid a cat’s name. I really wanted to name Star Maya but we already had the cat and Jeremy thought that was weird. Whatever. I’m going to stop now.
Dude, you are seriously awesome.
Those are high on my list of overused words too.
You do know that *we* renamed one of our cats so that we could use her name on the baby, right? (We weren’t naming the baby after her, that’s just the name the kids picked.)
1. What was your favorite game as a kid?
Hmmm…. I spent most of my days playing Barbies. At the cabin we played board games – Battleship and Payday…. I think that was what it was called.
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Reading. For sure.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website?
Our local newspaper website is probably the non-blog site that I visit most frequently.
4. What was your favorite book as a child? What about now?

5. If you had a weekend sans all responsibility and an unlimited budget, what would you do?
Get on a plane and go anywhere.
6. What do you *really* think of Twilight?
Eh. I understand why 14 year old girls are peeing their pants over it. It’s the 40 year olds who are peeing their pants that I worry about.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name?
I would keep Munchie’s name (because it’s better than “Munchie”.) I’m sure as kid I would have wanted to change my name, but I’m fine with it now.
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy?
An awesome family vacation.
9. Look to your left. What do you see?
I’m looking out my front living room window. It’s a beautiful sunny day.
10. What word do you use too much?
Sorry.
11. What is your favorite body part on yourself?
It’s not a good day/month for this right now.
12. How often do you wash your hair?
Daily.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it?
I don’t think I’ve found it yet. But I am satisfied doing this less-than-ideal job 3 days/week. I love my part time schedule!
Lyndsay´s last blog ..Girls Weekend
Yes! Payday was my favorite board game growing up! I just loved getting paid and figuring out how to pay my bills. I could never figure out why my parents refused to play it with me. Little did I know I would have a lifetime of it.
If you can’t answer #11, I’m going to answer for you: I love your hair. It’s GORGEOUS. And you have lovely eyes.

I’m surprised by how many people in this world like their feet. I hate mine. Of course, most people have pretty little things and I have GIANT horrific monsters.
I say *like* too much too. I’m pretty sure you could compile a list of all the overused words here and have my entire vocabulary.
Delurking, big time
1. What was your favorite game as a kid?
Probably playing with Barbies. Don’t judge me.

I’m trying hard to not Google what that is.

We don’t have kids. I like my middle name, Ebony, but apparently Latinos aren’t really able to pronounce that, so Candice works for me!
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy?
A large-sum grocery store gift card so I wouldn’t go hungry for the rest of the year….
I’m smart, I know.

11. What is your favorite body part on yourself?
The colour of my eyes and the fact that they look like sunflowers when I’m in the sun is kind of cool.

13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it?
Stopping world hunger.
I’m trying.
I love delurkers! Especially when they are delurking to do what I told them to do.
I have to use that particular Spanish phrase quite a bit too.
Do your eyes really look like sunflowers? Because that is possibly the greatest eye color description of all time. I would love to see that.
Hey! Where are you? You haven’t blogged for the same amount of time that I have. Ok, I’ll play….

8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy? A brand new spanking house with functional plumbing, no leaking roofs, finished floors and walls. My house is missing a few (or all) of these items.

p.s I’m stealing this for my blog. Thanks!
I’m coming in totally late on this one, but I’ll play.
1. What was your favorite game as a kid? Kick the Can. Never got old . . . I could probably still get in on that action to this day.
2. If you had to pick reading or watching tv and movies for the rest of your life, what would it be? I’d read. Seems silly to say that because I do love me some visual media, but I think I’d miss the written word more than TV. I’ve given it up largely (without really any intentionality) for the summer and I find that I really don’t miss it much at all.
3. What is your favorite non-blog website? Hard to say. I’m a blog-a-holic. Probably Craigslist. I love shopping around for treasures on there.
4. What was your favorite book as a child? What about now? Where the Red Fern Grows. Classic. That and The Twits.

6. What do you *really* think of Twilight? LAME. There. I’ve said it.
7. If you could go back and name your kids again, would you pick the same names? What if you could change your own name? I would definitely pick the names I did. They’re still quite young so I picked them very recently and my tastes have not changed.
As far as my own name, I’m pretty fine with it, but I would probably pick something a little edgier than what I have. I wouldn’t say I have a “frou-frou” name, but it’s pretty girly and I’m not really.
8. If you could buy one thing today, no matter the cost, and not another thing for an entire year, what would you buy? well . . . I JUST bought a house so I guess I can’t say that. Probably a new mini-van (dork much?) because I get the sense that our current one is breaking down and since we just bought the house we are not exactly overflowing with money for a new one.
9. Look to your left. What do you see? books and toys. I share my office with the playroom.
10. What word do you use too much? Jazz. But I’m fine with that.

12. How often do you wash your hair? every other day or so.
13. What would be your ideal job? Are you doing it? Ideally I wouldn’t HAVE to work for the years when my kids are young (pre-school age). After that, I would come up with some awesome sewing pattern designs and I could sell those as well as my own creations. What can I say, I love handmade.
